L work, C play

C off to the Louvre. It wasn't clear at first where to get the tickets after getting off the Metro, but then he remembered that it was under the glass pyramid. C got turned around a few times in the museum, and some paths were blocked, but those led to serendipitous discoveries. He left at the first announcement of closing.
We had beer and dinner with L's boss and members of the Paris group. Beer was at a place in the plaza outside the hotel; dinner was at a restaurant a (long) block away.

Part of Slow Food movement. Cheese "amuse bouche" was good, as were the little potatoes in greens on a bed of salt. (Even the French people didn't know the word for the potatoes — so we're not the only ones who have problems reading a French menu!) Tuna, rouget (=red mullet) were OK, as was the dessert îles flottant (=merringue with chocolate and cream sauce). Also tried calvados, an apple brandy from Normandy — not bad, but won't look for it elsewhere.
